About Scout Check-In

It started with a lost paper sign-in sheet and a simple question: at any moment, does the pack know which Cub Scouts are here, and who took each one home?

Why we built it

Scout Check-In was built by a volunteer Cub Scout parent and leader. Paper sign-in sheets get lost, rained on, and left in the back of a car. They can't tell you, in the middle of a campout, who is still on site. Scout Check-In replaces them with something every family already carries: a phone.

  • Safety first. Know who's on site in an emergency or evacuation.
  • Peace of mind for parents. Every Cub Scout is released to an adult the family approved.
  • Less work for leaders. No more reconciling messy paper sheets or chasing attendance.
  • Easy for families. Register once and use it for every event.

How we protect your pack

Scout Check-In holds information about young children. We treat that as the most important thing about it.

  • Every request is checked on the server against the person's role. Parents see only their own family; leaders see only their own pack.
  • Each pack's data is kept separate from every other pack's.
  • Data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
  • Families join by invitation from their pack. There is no open sign-up to a pack.
  • No ads, no third-party trackers, and we never sell data.

How it's built

Scout Check-In runs on Amazon Web Services. It is a serverless application, so it costs very little to run and scales from one pack meeting to many units at once. That is how it can be free for Scouting units today.

It works in any modern browser on a phone, tablet or computer, and families can add it to their home screen so it opens like an app.

Who it's for

Scout Check-In was designed around Cub Scout Packs: dens from Lions to Arrow of Light, parents checking in their Cub Scouts and siblings, and pickup at the end of the night. Troops, Crews and Ships can use it too, and older scouts can have their own accounts.
